Transition Voice is a weekly online magazine that uses WordPress’s blogging system to share articles on complex, controversial subjects like solar power vs. fossil fuels, climate change and politics. Of course, there are lots of sites out there covering these topics. So when it launched in 2010, Transition Voice decided to do something different to try to reach a new audience. Thus, its trademark is an irreverent and sometimes even snarky tone.
Articles come from more than 50 authors, including the Curren Group’s own Erik and Lindsay Curren. But all authors share in common the expertise and clear writing that gives them authority combined with a style that doesn’t take themselves too seriously, making them likeable.
It’s clearly worked to encourage readers to engage with the site’s articles, whatever expertise or point of view those readers may bring. The site has more than 4,000 Likes on its Facebook page, which regularly hosts lively debates on the site’s articles, ranging from wry movie reviews to impassioned manifestos on how to fix what’s wrong with industrial society.
